Do you sometimes feel that your life is out of balance?
What strategies do you have in place to regain balance in your life?
I don’t know about you but I always find it hard to maintain balance, whether it’s my business, social life, health, fitness, spiritual health or emotional health.
My main goal throughout my life has been to be happy and I’d always thought happiness came as a result of achieving balance in every area of your life. But what I didn’t realise was that this is an impossible task.
I have a really busy and important week coming up this week. I have some new personal training clients where I really need to make a good first impression, I have my first ever radio interview and I have some important deadlines to meet. When I ended last week feeling very stressed I became concerned as to how I was going to handle this week. Not only had I had an extremely busy week at work but also I’d had a client complain and my lodger stepped out of line and was disrespectful to me.
Stress is the biggest health epidermic of the 21st-century. Consequently, there are a lot of books, documentaries, articles and social media posts about how to handle stress.
However, its not just a matter of reading or listening to what others have to say about stress because it affects everybody differently. What stresses one person may not stress another. It is, therefore, important to take time out of our busy lives and get in touch with ourselves to see/hear what’s going on inside our head and the rest of our body.
For those of you who know me, at the end of last year and the beginning of this year I went through what was one of the most stressful times of my life. I searched on the Internet, I read books and I consulted health and life coach colleagues. I became an expert on stress and went on to win the speech contest at my local Toastmaster class with a speech on this topic.
When last Thursday came and I knew that I was heading for a mental melt down I set about planning a weekend of self-care.
I cancelled a couple of appointments, I cut out alcohol, I went to bed early, I planned a massage on Saturday and I freed up Sunday so that I could take a long walk in nature with a group of lovely people.
On Monday morning I woke up feeling energised, in control and ready for my busy week ahead. By taking some extra ‘me’ time, spending time in nature and chatting to some lovely people I had managed to totally renew myself.
What do you do to find balance in your life?
PS In addition to my above strategies I also practise – and thoroughly recommend – Pilates and/or Yoga. These slow controlled exercises can really help to rebalance not just the body but also the mind. If you would like some help on how to regain balance in your life then do please get in touch.
