Happy International Women’s Day!
What do you think about on this important day? Does it make you question your life or do you focus on those women in the world who are less fortunate?
There are 3 scenarios that I focus on:
- How lucky we’ve been in our lives to have had so much freedom and so many opportunities here in Britain compared to previous generations. Whilst my parents and grandparents were grateful for the peace that followed 2 world wars, I always felt how they had so many dreams that they were not able to fulfil.
- The plight of women in countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia where not only do they not have equal opportunities with men but they are very restricted in what they can and can’t wear in public. I’ll always remember how miserable I felt how when I visited Tehran I was forced to wear what appeared to me to be a bed sheet before I could alight from the plane. I felt like my identity had been stolen from me.
- The lack of respect and opportunities for older women here in Britain. I feel that Ageism is still rife – not just in society in general but in ourselves too. This narrows our opportunities and promotes ageing.
I’d love to hear what your thoughts have been around International Women’s Day.
