If you’ve read my previous Blogs on the benefits of Nordic Walking you’ll recall how Nordic Walking can help you to continue walking as you get older and without the expected back, knee or hip pain or the lack of balance or stamina as you age.

If you’re still resistant to walking with poles (“what! me using poles!  They’re for handycapped / old people!”) then let me relate to you, or remind you of my experience…or resistance of using poles for walking:  it was the last thing I wanted to do and had already given up skiing for Snowboarding – mainly because there were no poles involved.  There’s a lot to be said about the saying “you cant knock it until you’ve tried it” because that was why I succumbed to doing a Taster session – to add more ammunition to my resistance!!

However, from the moment I clipped into the poles and felt the power they gave me – twice as many muscles helping me to move forward, walking faster with no extra effort, and confident on rocky ground.

Whether you use poles for balance, fatloss, take weight off painful joints or increased pace to keep up with your younger friends, Nordic Walking can be adapted to your goals.

Finally, a reminder it you want longer and/or harder walks and dont find them on my timetable,  if you add a weghted vest/rucksac you’ll be amazed at how much harder you’ll have to work   NB  not any weighted vest or rucksac will do.  It’s important they’re fitted and a weight suitabe for your fitness and goals.
